How to Dress For Winter Weather in Temperatures Between 50-35 Degrees
Winter is slowly creeping up on us Chicagoans
The increasingly colder temperatures often yield many frequently asked questions for runners who want to continue their training through the unpredictable Chicago winter.
“Am I overdressed for the current weather?” “Am I underdressed?” “What if it snows?” "What if it rains?" “Will I get hypothermia?”
As temperatures are currently falling in the “cold” range, this piece will focus on dressing in temperatures between 50 and 35 degrees.
Let’s get started.
Generally speaking, “cold” temperatures start to introduce long sleeved tops and half-zips spun with advanced fabrics that wick away moisture while not letting heat escape. Depending on the weather conditions, lightweight jackets with wind blocking and water resistant technologies are also introduced. Depending on your personal comfort levels, a pair of shorts or lightweight running pants are needed to complete the outfit.
“Cold” temperatures also introduce one of the most important aspects of winter running. Accessories. There is an increased importance of covering your ears with a lightweight hat, beanie, or headband and your hands with a lightweight liner glove.
With daylight savings time in full effect in Chicago, two forms of reflectivity is needed. One form of light to help you see the path in front of you, and another to help others see you.
