2015 Springbrook Sprint Tri Race Recap
For eight years, Springbrook sprint triathlon has held a special meaning to our triathlon training program. A pool sprint triathlon, it is held on the premises of the Springbrook pool with its iconic slide and diving well. This event has served as the target race for our summer beginner training program for the past several years, and has proven to be a reasonable challenge for our beginner triathletes to complete with its 200 yard swim, 9 mile bike, and around 2.7 mile run. At the same time, these distances make this race a formidable challenge for our seasoned athletes who are racing for speed while training for events later in the month.
This year was no exception as the Fleet Feet Knoxville Racing team fielded a large number of athletes ready to test their training. Of course, the one thing that stands out with Fleet Feet Knoxville Racing is their Team Spirit. As a coach, I am very proud to see the camaraderie among athletes where new comers are mentored and supported by the veterans.
That spirit of teamwork starts with veteran athletes such as Melinda S. who ended up with the 3rd Overall Female title as she trains for her first Ironman in Chattanooga and Debbie S. who won the Overall Female Grand Master award just a week before performing strongly at USAT Age Group Nationals. And it continues all the way to our newcomers. It shows as a smile on the face of our rookie triathlete Jeanne Fair who not just completed her first triathlon at age 62, but walked away with an age group award. So whether this is the 8th season of racing this event or just the first, the sense unity among our athletes is intoxicating and one that have not seen anywhere else.
Congratulations everyone.
