Summer Miles
Summer Miles (Sung to the tune of “Summer Nights” from Grease)
Summer runnin’ had me a blast
Summer runnin’ happened so fast
Picked a race, flat as can be;
Signed up early; my shirt’s guaranteed!
Summer training sounded like fun,
But, uh oh, those summer miles!
Well-a, well-a, well-a, uh!
Tell me more, tell me more—
Did you run very far?
Tell me more, tell me more—
Did you quit at the car?
I kept running till I got a cramp—
Dehydrated and chafed like a champ.
Drank some water—I nearly drowned.
Filled my bottle for a second round.
Summer training—it has begun,
But, uh oh, those summer miles!
Well-a, well-a, well-a, uh!
Tell me more, tell me more—
Like did you take a GU?
Tell me more, tell me more—
Did you want to spew?
Started early—it was still dark.
Used the bathroom down at the park.
Started early—woke up at three.
Used the bathroom behind a tree.
Summer training—it’s not that bad
But, uh oh, those summer miles!
Well-a, well-a, well-a, uh!
Tell me more, tell me more—
Did you blister your feet?
Tell me more, tell me more—
Did you spit in the street?
Did a workout down at the track.
Pulled a hamstring on the second lap.
Took the day off, then took some Aleve.
Used the roller and compression sleeves.
Summer training—it beats you up.
But, uh oh, those summer miles!
Well-a, well-a, well-a, uh!
Tell me more, tell me more—
Did you hit all your splits?
Tell me more, tell me more—
Was your pace on the fritz?
When it turns colder, that’s where it ends.
When you taper and your body mends.
The temps will drop, and so will your pace.
You’ll be fit and ready to race.
Autumn running bursting with dreams
But, uh oh, those su-uh-mmer mi-les!
Tell me more! Tell me more!
