Our Favorite Winter Running Shoes in 2020

So far...

There is still a lot of beautiful winter running to go out there and catch. 

When the snow quickly piles up, packs down or turns icy, you want to have full-confidence in the shoes you put on. Constant slipping, wet-feet, salt, slush, ice and snow can end a good run early, or worse, keep you from going out at all.

A good pair of winter running shoes can keep you on track with your running routine and training without falling behind or losing progress.

So we've put together a quick list highlighting some of our favorite new running shoes that have us crushing our winter running so far, no matter the conditions.

Saucony Peregrine 10 ST (Sloppy Terrain) or GTX

The Peregrine 10 ST and GTX® is a grippy, protective trail shoe for
confidently exploring any terrain with cushioning built for uphill responsiveness and
downhill confidence.

Available in GORE-TEX.

Hoka One One Speedgoat 4 (GTX)

HOKA’s deep lugs and Vibram MegaGrip outsole promise bomber footing on
sketchy trails, and the beefy midsole still provides plenty of cushion and
protection against jagged rocks and roots. 

Available in wide-widths and a waterproof GORE-TEX version.

Salomon SpeedCross GTX

The sole of the SPEEDCROSS 5 has larger lugs with more space and an updated
geometry, delivering better push-off grip and braking grip, in all surface conditions.

Available in wide-widths and GORE-TEX.

Altra Lone Peak 4.5 RSM (Rain, Snow, Mud)

Designers embedded a StoneGuard rock plate into the midsole for lightweight
protection against jagged rocks and roots, and multi-directional outsole lugs give
you superior grip on unpredictable trails.

Also available in a waterproof RSM (rain, snow, mud) model. 

New Balance Fresh Foam Hierro v5

New Balance gave the Hierro a full-length Fresh Foam midsole and tuned it for
a soft, comfortable ride. Designers mated the Fresh Foam to a Vibram MegaGrip outsole
for improved traction on wet and slippery surfaces.
