Brand Breakdown: Altra

Brand Breakdown: Altra

Hit the roads or trails in one of Altra’s innovative running shoes, designed to promote your natural gait.

Every shoe sports two signature technologies: a wider, FootShape™ toe box and Balanced Cushioning™ platform. Together, Altra’s tech encourages a natural, low-impact ride.

Altra was founded in the back of a running store by two runners in 2011. They started the company because they wanted a running shoe to help you run more naturally. Altra shoes do this in two main ways: the FootShape™ toe box and Balanced Cushioning™ platform.

FOOTSHAPE™ TOE BOX

Altra's FootShape™ toe box is a wider, ergonomically designed forefoot area in every shoe. This allows the toes to relax and spread out naturally and the big toe to remain in a straight position for maximum stability and power. Plus, it enhances stability for all-around comfort.

BALANCED CUSHIONING™

Most shoes have more cushioning in the heel than the forefoot, causing a slight downward slope. You may have heard of this as “heel-to-toe drop.” Every Altra shoe is built on a Balanced Cushioning™ platform that positions the heel and forefoot an equal height from the ground. Therefore, all Altra shoes are Zero-Drop™ shoes that can feel flatter than other running shoes. This natural foundation aids in optimal alignment, cultivates better form and encourages a low-impact landing.

Rivera 2

Altra redesigned the Rivera to have a slimmed-down profile and a more breathable upper. The fit hugs your midfoot and heel but still leaves room for you to wiggle your toes thanks to Altra’s signature FootShaped toe box. The new mesh is lighter, more breathable and more flexible. It also features reflective stripes on the toe box and heel for added visibility. Plus, Altra re-engineered the heel collar padding for more comfort.

Provision 6

Altra took its lightweight stability shoe and made it more cushioned, durable and bouncier than the previous version. They added their EGO midsole to this model of the Provision, which makes it lighter, too. The EGO cushioning is soft but allows for an explosive push-off.

The Altra Provision 6 has a GuideRail™ design that gives you medial support when you need it, making this a great stability shoe for runners who overpronate. Designers updated the InnovArch™, which puts a webbing underfoot and provides additional arch support to give your foot better placement.

Lone Peak 6

Shoes that match your love for adventure, the Altra Lone Peak has long been a fan favorite of trail runners and hikers looking for a lightweight and comfortable trail shoe. The support and grip you get from Altra’s MaxTrac outsole lets you dig into the dirt when you need to push a little harder and gives you extra control for soft landings while you descend steep terrain.

As you approach stream crossings and puddles on your route, a protective toe cap with drain ports helps drain water out of your shoes fast when the only way across is through. And when debris starts creeping down your socks, Altra’s attachments for their trail gaiters help keep stones, pebbles, dirt and sand out of your shoe.

Torin 5

The zero-drop trainer offers a premium, cushioned feel with Altra’s EgoMax midsole foam. This updated midsole foam provides support and responsive kick on the roads and trails, without adding additional weight. In fact, EgoMax is Altra’s bounciest foam yet.

A revamped upper is lightweight and breathable with cushioning in all the right places. Additional padding around the heel collar creates a secure, comfortable fit without constraining motion. The foot-shaped toe box, a signature of Altra design, allows for natural toe movement while running for the most stable fit yet.

Paradigm 6.0

When you first slip on the Paradigm 6, you’ll notice your toes can stay straight and have extra room to wiggle due to Altra’s FOOTSHAPE™ toe box design. As you lace up, a mesh material wraps around the medial (inner) side of your foot to hug your arch and prevent excessive pronation. This is thanks to Altra’s INNOVARCH™ and GUIDERAIL™ technologies that work to support your arch and heel to give the foot natural stability and guidance.

Once you're up and on your feet for your walk, run or long day at work, the Paradigm 6 uses a balanced bed of Altra EGO Max Midsole™ cushioning for a soft and bouncy ride. Plus, the Paradigm’s zero-drop heel-to-toe difference takes pressure off the ball of your foot and encourages a softer landing while walking and running.
