Coming to a new area is always fun, but finding where to run or hike isn't always as fun. We've put together some routes that the local running community likes follow. Whether you're looking for a nice 1 mile out and back to walk with your friends or you want a long route for your long run, we've got you covered.
5K (3.1 Miles): Seacliff Tour
Seacliff State Beach is a beautiful spot to check out if you want to catch a gorgeous susnset or enjoy the sound of waves crashing on the beach as you run or walk. There are nice houses literally on the same level as the beach as well as a stretch of beach that seems to go on forever. This route is perfect because you can park at Fleet Feet Aptos for free and then you'll just come right back to your car at the end of the loop.
10k (6.2 Miles): Polo Grounded
*Warning this route is for those comfortable with running in the bikelane* Polo Grounds Park has a really neat loop that's super to fun to run along. So fun that you'll actually go around it twice with this route! the route as a whole does require some bike lane running, so remember to face traffic as you're in the bike lane for visibilities sake. If you'd like to avoid the bike lane then do a couple loops around the park. You might even catch a couple other people also doing that.
8 Miles: 8 Mile
The Forest of Nisene Marks State Park is a very popular place and it definetely lives up to the hype. With a fire road that seems to go on forever you'll be able to hit almost any distance in there. The route is for an 8 mile run, but feel free to just turn around when you're at half of your expected mileage or go out further! You'll see high school and college cross country/track teams going on a long run, hoards of bikers, and families going on a nice stroll. The perfect place to zone out and get the miles done or enjoy it with your firends.
1 Mile or .33 Mile Loop: Seascape Mile
Seascape is the perfect place to check out if you want to find a new place or maybe want to just get a quick stroll in. There's also a loop around the grass field there that's a perfect track substitute if you're looking for a place to do some quick repeats. it's .33 of a mile long so just longer than a track but can definetly get the job done. Plus it's all dirt and flat! There's always parking because it isn't very well known and there's beach access from there if you'd like to check out the water. Definetly walk over towards the cliff if you're interested in seeing one the best views in Aptos.
