What is a Beer Mile?
According to www.beermile.com:
In the vast world of extreme sports, there exists a sub-culture at its heart best known as "digestive athletics."
The most famous, glorified, respected, and celebrated of all the events of this underworld is the Beer Mile.
The foundation of any true beer mile is built upon two things: drinking beer and running a mile. The most common format of the beer mile requires a single participant to drink a full-sized beer, run a quarter mile, then repeat the process three times. This results in the consumption of four beers and the running of four quarter miles (hence the beer mile). The entire process is timed. The total time is often used as a measuring stick of competency.
About Our "Beer" Mile
Unfortunately due to Happy Hour legislation in Illinois it is illegal to consume beer during an athletic event. At the Bruegala "Beer" Mile runners will drink non-alcoholic beer during the event and all participants will receive a $20 punch ticket to consume good beer during the festival at their leisure. We promise it will still be great fun and we appreciate your understanding and support of this charity event.
Awards
This Beer Mile is meant to be FUN and we will not have official finisher's results or awards. However, all finishers will receive a limited edition Bruegala Bottle Opener.
Additional Information
All participants must be 21 years or older.
All participants must also purchase a ticket to Bruegala ($15). You may purchase the ticket along with your Beer Mile registration or you may purchase at the door.
Bruegala tickets purchased as part of your Beer Mile registration may be picked up at Fleet Feet Sports Bloomington.
Field is limited to 50 participants maximum.
Absolutely no headphones will be permitted on the course.
This is a FUN, UNOFFICIAL Beer Mile and we will be following modified Beer Mile Rules.
Each competitor drinks four non-alcoholic beers and runs four laps around the perimeter of the warning track.
Beer must be consumed before the lap is begun, within the transition area before the start/finish line.
Competitors who vomit before they finish the race must complete one penalty lap at the end of the race (immediately after the completion of the 4th lap). Note: please make every effort to vomit in a trash can along the run route.
Race officials reserve the right to reject the race entry of any participants that are deemed unsafe or unfit to participate. If a participant's entry is revoked no refunds will be issued.
Please note that the entry fee paid is non-refundable and non-transferable. The Race Committee may delay or cancel the event if the conditions on race day are unsafe. In the event of a cancellation no refunds of the entry fee or any other costs in connection with the event will be given. In the event of a cancellation all proceeds will be donated to The Bloomington-Normal Jaycees.
