Ten years ago, Martinus Evans received harsh advice from his doctor: “Lose weight or die.” Evans vowed that day to run a marathon and since then, he has run eight marathons and hundreds of other distances, created a devoted running community, been featured on the cover of Runner’s World, in the New York Times and other major news outlets, and continues to inspire the runner in everyone.
Evans has stated that this is not a weight loss journey—since that fateful appointment he has run over 100 races at varying distances in his 300lb+ body—rather, it is a journey toward the achievement of goals through running and the enjoyment of the many physical, mental, and social benefits that come with it…benefits he hopes to help make more accessible to everyone.
In an effort to make running more accessible, Evans wrote his first book; Slow AF Run Club: The Ultimate Guide for Anyone Who Wants to Run.
Martinus Evans is currently on a nationwide book tour and we've invited him to make a stop in Bloomington. Join us on September 6 at Union Park for a fun run/walk as well as an engaging talk, Q & A session, and book signing. Admission is just $5 without book purchase or $20 with a book purchase - save $3 when you purchase both online. You can pick up your book at the store or we will also have them the night of the event. If you aren't able to attend you can still purchase a book in-store now to learn about his journey.
