Fleet Feet Sports Knoxville Leads Free Walking Program For Local Women's Charity
Knoxville, TN – May 2016 – Fleet Feet Sports Knoxville is proud to announce the success of their partnership with A Hand Up For Women (AHUFW) to lead a free walking program for volunteers and participants of the program. AHUFW is a life-management and job-readiness program that brings dignity, self-confidence, and hope to women who might otherwise remain trapped in addiction, abuse, poverty, and despair. Although AHUFW endeavors to address every aspect of a woman’s life, physical fitness has been a substantial gap in their services. The walking program (called Walk Fit), which began in April this year, seeks to close that gap by offering fitness training at no cost to AHUFW participants.
Walk Fit will conclude this Sunday, May 15th at the Heart and Sole 5k at Sacred Heart Cathedral School. For the past several weeks, Fleet Feet Knoxville coaches have been helping AHUFW participants and volunteers to prepare to walk a 5k. It is FFK’s hope that by making physical fitness a larger part of the program, not only will these women benefit from the increased self-esteem and better quality of life regular exercise brings, but it will also inspire them to be better role models within their families and communities. This training program is the starting point
