Attending a new running group is terrifying. At least that’s how I felt the first time I went to Fleet Feet Mount Pleasant’s Monday Runday. I loved to run and was on a mission to meet other people who also loved to run, so it would make sense that a running group would be the best place to meet these people. But I was still worried that I wouldn’t fit in, that I would be the awkward outsider among a clique who already knew each other, reminiscent of most of my middle school lunch table experiences. All my fears were assuaged as soon as I showed up that first time. The Monday Runday crew welcomed me immediately and quickly became my friends. It’s almost funny to look back at how terrified I was that first time. But If you share that nervousness about showing up, that’s okay! To help you out, I am introducing some of the friendly faces who are regulars so it will be easier to say hello. Again, all faces and all paces are welcome to join the festivities. All that you need to do is show up!
I am starting at the Mount Pleasant Monday this week, but will head up to the Summerville location to meet the folks up there next time!
CHYNA
How long have you been attending Monday Runday? Since June 7th this year (almost 2 months).
Why do you attend/what keeps bringing you back? The Fleet Feet family has always been a welcoming and encouraging group. I feel motivated to show up and push myself alongside (or behind) great people!
What do you do for work? I’m a structural engineer at ABS. We do forensic and design engineering.
What is a fun fact about yourself? I’m included in the 18% of the world’s population who sneezes when exposed to bright light. Apparently we are called “sun sneezers”. ??♀️
STACEY
How long have you been coming to Monday Runday? Between here and the Summerville store, about three years.
What keeps you coming back? All the encouragement from the other Monday Runday-ers. I probably wouldn’t run if I had to do it by myself.
What is your day-job? I am a French teacher
What is a fun fact about yourself? I just got an eight-week-old labrador puppy named Rambo
CHRIS
How long have you been coming to Monday Runday? Two years
What keeps you coming back? It’s the people for sure. I have also made Monday Runday a discipline. It’s on my calendar every week to make sure I take the time to go for a run and meet new people.
What is your day-job? I work in IT.
What is a fun fact about yourself? I love challenging myself and exploring what I can achieve. I just came back from hiking the Grand Canyon where I traveled from rim to rim and back again in 17 hours.
JACK
How long have you been coming to Monday Runday? Only about a year
What keeps you coming back? All the folks. While I run a lot throughout the week, this is the only time I run with other people and I love it!
What is your day-job? Just a lot of housework. I take care of my wife and spend time with my family.
What is a fun fact about yourself? I always have a joke. For instance, why is milk the fastest liquid? Because it’s pasteurized before you can even see it! (get it? Past-your-eyes)
COLLEEN
How long have you been coming to Monday Runday? I’ve attended Monday Runday for almost a year. I started coming right after I moved to Mount Pleasant at the end of July 2020.
What keeps you coming back? I love the friendships and the supportive environment! No matter how fast or how far you are running, the group is always welcoming and encouraging. It’s a great group to socialize with before, during, and after the run. I meet people with all different careers with interests outside my own.
What is your day-job? I am the Spanish and Linguistics professor at the College of Charleston.
What is a fun fact about yourself? I have run 14 marathons and I’m looking forward to my next one!
Interested in getting to know these folks, or any of the other Monday Rundayers a little better? Come join us every Monday in front of the store. The run/walk starts at 6:30 pm and there are 3-mile and 5-mile options available. See you there!
