Did you have any walk/run goals on your New Years resolution list? There are plenty of big events coming up in Charleston this spring that are perfect for first timers. Whether you're running your first 5K or walking farther than you ever have before, these events will give you a race to aim for and a day to circle on your calendar.
LifePoint Race for Life 5K on Feb. 22
This 5K run/walk will be held at the James Island County Park and helps raise awareness about saving and improving lives through organ, eye and tissue donation. Many of our No Boundaries 5K training participants will be taking on this race as their first 5K! Whether you run or walk, crossing the finish line is an accomplishment to be proud of!
Challenge Walk MS: Charleston, Feb. 28-March 2
During this three-day event, more than 400 walkers will travel 50 miles from historic downtown Charleston to Isle of Palms. The mileage is broken up over three days and includes gorgeous scenery and views along the route. The event raises money for MS research with the goal of creating a world free of the disease. The hope-filled atmosphere and community celebration makes it a great event for beginners and teams!
Ashley Ridge FoxTrot 5K, March 1
Looking for a race in Summerville? The FoxTrot 5K takes place entirely on the grounds of Ashley Ridge High School on the team's cross country course. The registration is only $25 and you can choose which of the high school's athletic team's receive a portion of your proceeds. This smaller race is perfect for first timers or those looking to reach a new time goal.
Cooper River Bridge Run, April 5
Although the Bridge Run draws thousands of participants ever year, it's still a great race for beginners looking to go farther than the 5K distance. Prepare yourself for crowds and just enjoy the fun atmosphere and great view from atop the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. The race always draws many walkers as well! This year, we're offering a training program just for walkers leading up to the race. The 10-week WalkFit program includes two coached group workouts a week to build up to the 10K distance and prepare for the bridge's incline. Registration is still open!
Remember when taking on any new distance or event the importance of training, hydration and injury prevention. Come see us at Fleet Feet for all the gear, tips and advice you'll need. Now go tackle those goals!
