David Parler
Melissa D’arcy made the nomination saying that "Mr. Parler remains in touch with all of his staff, students and families on a weekly basis (probably more, as he shares his personal phone#). He sends encouraging words to those who may be stressed. He records birthday songs for students stuck at home with no way to celebrate. He visits students that have missed a large amount of school work. He even volunteers to supervise to care of essential workers children so that they may go to work. Mr. Parler's love for his community shines bright every day, and even more so in this challenging time. The James Island Cougars appreciate all that Mr. Parler does for us!!!"
FF: How long have you been working in your current field?
David: I have been working in public education for 35 years.
FF: What is your favorite part of your job?
David: I love seeing the students each day as they enter the building ready for whatever comes their way.
FF: What is the most challenging part of your job under the current circumstances?
David: Currently it is a challenge to determine what are the root causes when students are not completing their virtual assignments.
FF: What is your favorite activity to stay healthy and relieve stress?
David: I am a former age group and college swimmer so that is my first passion. However I do enjoy running, even more now that I have not been able to swim for 8 weeks.
Andrew Scott
was nominated by Tracy Doyle who stated the following: "Andrew Scott works nostop for our town (as do ALL the K-9 officers), they all train with their dogs once a week, patrol, monitor our town and keep us all safe. His wife is an RN who has been furloughed from her hospital based job and Andrew works as much overtime to as he can to make ends meet. He also takes call (for NO additional pay, I might add) and frequently goes in at all hours to help out his fellow officers when a dog is needed. Andrew is in his feet more than anyone I know and he deserves a cool pair of your shoes!"
FF: How long have you been working in your current field?
Andrew: "I've been in Law Enforcement for over 10 years and have spent the last 6 years in the K-9 unit working a patrol K-9 named Thor."
FF: What is your favorite part of your job?
Andrew: "Being able to come to work everyday with mans best friend in my back seat. Being a K-9 handler has been a very rewarding experience. I have enjoyed the connection we can make with the community and show them how valuable, smart and protective our partners are to the department and community as a whole."
FF: What is the most challenging part of your job under the current circumstances?
Andrew: "No day in Law Enforcement is ever routine or the same while we have new guidelines to follow to adjust to the new "norm" we still have to do our job just like every other day."
FF: What is your favorite activity to stay healthy and relieve stress?
Andrew: "Spending time outside with my family going to the beach."
