Charity Spotlight: PEDIGREE Foundation
This week’s spotlight is The PEDIGREE Foundation. Founded over 10 years ago, The PEDIGREE Foundation supports shelters and rescue organizations as well as encouraging people to adopt, volunteer and donate. The PEDIGREE Foundation is working to find a solution to the problem of the millions of homeless dogs in this country.
The PEDIGREE foundation awards grants to caring, committed shelters and rescue organizations across the country from the International Hearing Dog Inc. to rescues focusing on senior dog adoptions and breed-specific rescues. The grants can cover operating expenses, development of new adoption programs, and/or the expansion of current adoption programs. They also offer disaster-relief grants for shelters and rescues to help with evacuation, intake, emergency care, repairs, and so on. Since 2008, they have awarded almost 5,000 grants.
Nashville’s own Agape Animal Rescue has been a lucky recipient of a PEDIGREE Foundation grant. Agape connects willing families with dogs that need a home. They also have a Foster Care Program that allows families to take in dogs on a year-round, temporary, or large-scale basis. This program helps train the dogs and provide a nurturing and loving environment until the dog is placed in their forever home.
Ellie, pictured above, is a year and a half old puppy that was surrendered to Metro Animal Care and subsequently to Agape due to her need for constant attention and training. Through Agape, Ellie has experienced love, patience, and important training that improved significantly in the 9 months since her arrival. Ellie is now eligible for adoption and is ready for her second chance!
The Humane Society of Sumner County in Hendersonville, TN has also received support from the PEDIGREE Foundation. They have provided all the food the shelter needs at no cost, making it possible for them to provide veterinary services and take care of shelter needs.
