The Wietecha Cup
When it comes to running in Middle Tennessee, the first name that comes to mind is Hendersonville’s own, Scott Wietecha.
The seven-time Rock ‘N Roll St Jude (Country Music) Marathon defending champion is not only well known for his accolades in the elite running circuit but for his contributions to the running community in and around Middle Tennessee.
In honor of all his accomplishments, Hendersonville’s running community has come together under the auspices of The Hendersonville Race Series and The Hendersonville Running Club and created “The Wietecha Cup”.
“The premise is very simple” explains Mauricio Sanchez, Director of Run Hendersonville, the promotional arm of the Hendersonville Running Club and the creator of The Wietecha Cup. “We want to challenge runners to be at their very best and to compete for the honor of taking home The Wietecha Cup. Runners will race each of the four Hendersonville Race Series races. Times will be accumulated and at the conclusion of the last race, the runners with the best total times in their category will win.”
The Hendersonville Race Series encompasses four local races: The Memorial Day Classic 15K (May 25th), The Hendersonville Half Marathon (Sep 12th), The Indian Lake Loop 5 Mile (Nov 26th) and the YMCA Frostbite 10K (January 2nd).
The Wietecha Cup will be awarded to male and female Overall Winners, as well as to the winners in the Masters, Grand Masters, Senior Grand Masters, and Overall Age Group categories.
To be eligible to compete for The Wietecha Cup, runners must register for the Hendersonville Race Series, AND register and complete each of the four races. For additional information, please visit www.runhendersonville.
