Bah, Humbug!

I'm having a hard time getting into the "Christmas spirit" this year; the year has flown by, and it just doesn't seem plausible that it will be here at the end of the week (it's still July, right?!). The weather's too warm, the presents aren't going to buy themselves, and there's just so much left to do-it just can't be the end of the year already!

So, because I feared I'd turn into Ebenezer Scrooge, I did everything I could to combat any abhorrent behavior I might otherwise be enticed to exhibit: we decorated the store (we even bought a real-live tree this year!), put nonstop Christmas music on the radio, and all next week I'll be introducing Santa hats to the work ensemble (note: it's important to point out that I still need to "Christmas it up" at my house...but large dogs that eat all your plants and carry whole fire logs into your house and leave them on the couch for you to find...well, let's just say that doesn't make for the most conducive Christmas-decorating environment).

But don't fret! Slowly but surely, I'm getting there; I find I'm whistling Christmas tunes without realizing it, and I've gotten most of my buying done.  But most importantly, I know what two things will be the tipping point-the two things that will insure I'm bright-eyed and bushy-tailed come Christmas Eve and morning:
  1. The Ugly Sweater Fun Run.  Taking place at 7:00 AM on Christmas Eve (from Fleet Feet), the inaugural run should be a light-hearted, festive affair that offers plenty in the way of holiday cheer...and doughnuts. Come join us for fun and fellowship!
  2. Time with family and friends. The only time better spent than running the open road (in my humble opinion) are those hours, gathered together, with loved ones. Playing cards, sharing smiles, drinking...hot chocolate; those people that, no matter what you're doing, it doesn't really matter as long as it's with them.
Be safe, get some miles in, and Happy Holidays to you and yours; I hope the season is spent making, and keeping, you happy and healthy!
