We Are Kind of a Big Deal

“I don’t know how to put this, but we’re kind of a big deal” is not only an extremely funny, slightly tinkered-with quote from “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy”, but also seems somehow appropriate for the team here at Fleet Feet Savannah the last couple of days; I, for one, am going to be dreaming about cameras documenting my every move for the foreseeable future (and yes, I agree: I too am surprised the cameras didn’t break when filming me).  But why Fleet Feet?—and what production company is such a glutton for punishment?  Because we’re a local business that loves helping local charities, and Mad Law Media.  How’s that for a short, cryptic answer?

The extended version: The Soul Proprietors Film Competition pairs three local, philanthropic businesses with three young, up-and-coming filmmakers in an effort to further not only the filmmakers attempts to establish themselves, but also provide always-necessary funds for charities that are near and dear to the hearts of the businesses they are showcasing.  Through sheer, I-drew-you-out-of-a-box, dumb luck, we are teamed up with Mad Law Media, while our competition (Local Farmbag and Service Brewing Company) were teamed up with two other filmmaking teams.  And by “dumb luck”, I sincerely admit that the group of young, hardworking folks at Mad Law Media is the team we would have picked if given the chance; equal parts tenacious professionalism and zany humor (possibly due to sleepless nights) made them the perfect group to work with our goofball crew here at Fleet Feet.

So, what’s at stake?  The winning filmmakers receive $5,000 and, perhaps more importantly, the confidence they’ll need to hopefully propel them even further along their prospective career paths.  Fleet Feet Savannah gets awesome footage we can use for years to come (sorry, you’re stuck seeing our ugly mugs for years to come, Savannah!).  And last, and certainly not least, the charities in question (Susan G. Komen, in our case) receive all of the proceeds from the screening of the films, which they in turn can use to keep their mission of helping those in need alive and well.  And guess what?—you can be a part of the process in a big way!

Please join us on Thursday, April 28 at the Jepson Center for the Arts (5:00-7:00 PM for VIP access, 7:00-8:30 for the screening and awards) to take part in this great cause.  Have fun, get a little dressy, and give money to those that really need it.  Help us sell this thing out!
