Meet Coach Gabriel
Meet Coach Gabriel (He/Him)
Gabriel is the head cross country and distance coach at NCAA Division II Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, WA. During the 2024/2025 season his athletes set 25 personal records from the 400m-10k distances on and off the track. Prior to taking the head coaching job at SMU, Gabriel was a volunteer assistant coach at Seattle University where he worked closely with Division 1 athletes and professionals to hone his craft.
Gabriel worked as an outfitter at Fleet Feet Seattle from 2020-2024 where he led group runs, organized high school fit nights, and shared shoe/product knowledge with hundreds of customers. He took over Fleet Feet Seattle’s Training Program Coordinator role in March of 2023, and has trained 225+ runners for the 5k distance up to the full marathon. Many of these participants achieved different goals throughout the year including completing their first long-distance race, a personal record, or a return to running post-injury!
Gabriel’s experience comes from competing as a division 1 track and field athlete at Wagner College, completing 5 half marathons, Chukanut 50k, and multiple 5k/10k road races over the last 16 years. He’s an avid reader and enjoys infusing his training programs with new nuggets of information from different resources and mentors.
Coach G’s focus is on building an inclusive community of runners, of all abilities, who see the sport as an activity to be celebrated with others.
Gabriel is a graduate of Wagner College where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Performance and ran Division I XC/Track for two years. He later earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in Acting from the University of Washington’s Professional Actor Training Program (PATP). He is a Level 1 USATF certified coach.
