Beth Smith joined Fleet Feet through the encouragement of her wonderful husband Terry. She joined our No Boundaries program first where she stated that "all of the runners and coaches were so welcoming". There was a trial speedwork night with our distance program that she was absolutely petrified of but she decided to attend. Beth said she "absolutely loved the community, support, and all the crazy colorful lights brightening up the otherwise dark cold CNY winter". She joined the Fleet Feet distance program the next day and has never looked back.
Beth's fitness journey truly began many years ago playing sports with her older brothers. She didn't realize how much she missed that feeling until she started running with Fleet Feet. Beth stated that "running across a finish line makes you feel tough, proud, invincible, and grateful." Fleet Feet has been a catalyst for Beth to achieve her goals and not let fear stand in her way. When speaking with Beth, she fondly reminisced over all the coaches that have helped her on her journey – "from Grant Fletcher teaching me about nutrition, to Wendy Foster running in the rain with me and realizing I don’t melt – but can actually have fun in the puddles (even muddy puddles), to Penny Noll always reminding me to smile (releases tension), to Karen Nieman having a consistent steady pace, and to Heather Moses who is so easy to convince to join me in another upcoming race! All the volunteer coaches always have encouraging words to say to everyone in the program – regardless of if you are in their group pace or not."
The volunteer coaches have inspired her so much through their kind words and dedication, that she has joined the No Boundaries coaching team herself. She truly believes that Fleet Feet has something for everyone with the various programs. FFXT reminds her how important strength and flexibility is, the trail program shows what a beautiful area we live in, and the distance program has helped her run many marathons and even an Ultra!
Beth has been crushing her goals this year and achieving many personal bests. It has been so much fun to watch her growth. She stated that her husband Terry has been there for encouragement and support no matter how far away the race may be. What Beth doesn't realize, is now she is that figure of support and encouragement for others. Beth, cheers to more adventures through running!
