Meanwhile... One Year Later
By Ed Griffin
It seems like such a blur. Has it really only been a year since COVID- 19 shut us down from normal activities?
Last year at this time, we were going to games, attending school events, running in a races with friends and dining at restaurants. Still, there was a storm brewing in the distance and the news that followed each day put the brakes on the gears of life.
As we look back at this past year, there are a lot of losses. Too many to count, really. The missed graduations, birthdays, holidays and many occasions that we all just took for granted in the past, didn’t happen. If you lost a family member, friend, neighbor or co-worker, the impact of COVID-19 is even more painful.
Also, those who battled COVID-19 or had to go into quarantine know the feeling of monitoring every breath, ache, or pain as the uncertainty of this disease occupied space in our minds.
We all know the bad. What were some of the good things to come out of our change in lifestyle?
By now, most of us know what a Zoom meeting is. OK, that may not be completely good.
Many of us turned to or increased our exercise routines to help deal with stress or because we had extra time. Even our pets benefited from this, as neighborhood dog walking increased so dramatically that people and pets were more common on the street than automobiles.
A lot of household projects were completed and it is a pretty good bet that your cooking skills may have improved so much that you might be able to beat Bobby Flay.
An instant conversation starter was the new series or movie you streamed. Which was better, The Crown or The Queen’s Gambit?
As we are seeing increased vaccinations and infection rates on the decline, we all hope the end is in sight. It is no time to drop our guard. Listen to the health experts locally and at the state and national level. Keep wearing a mask and get the vaccine when it is your turn.
Here at Fleet Feet, we will continue to look out for our customers and employees, as we follow safe health protocols. We truly appreciate all of the help and support you have given us in the last year and look forward to celebrating a return to the activities and people we miss.
