If you are trying to figure out how to carve out time for yourself, look no further! Shutting the bathroom door and yelling at the 5 year old, “I need privacy” is all we can manage sometimes, you know? However, if you can find more time than a bathroom break, check out below for some ideas!
(Pro Tip: The more the merrier! Gather up the gang to create some holiday cheer!)
- Try an at home manicure/pedicure.
- Grab a coffee/tea and go for a drive and look at the holiday lights/decorations in your neighborhood!
- Visit the locally famous Lights on the Lake!
- Go to your favorite restaurant with a book and order your favorite dessert (sticky toffee pudding anyone!?)
- Plan a family movie night: You might be thinking, “How is this ‘me time?’” The thing is, setting up a cozy, relaxing night with little expectation is helpful. Snuggle your kiddos. Snack on the snacks. When I do this with my kids, they end up practicing their wrestling moves or spilling snacks all over the floor. Ha! It isn’t perfect. But it’s time together and I can at least sit and enjoy a movie in semi-peace and quiet before bedtime!
- Go for a walk. Go to the gym. Go for a run. Go shovel snow!
- Schedule a haircut (even if it’s a trim!).
- Get creative! Paint, draw, color, sketch, crochet, knit, cross-stitch, the list goes on!
- Journal. Not everyone is the type to sit and write in a journal, so if journaling isn’t for you, maybe bounce back up to #8 and get creative!
- Call someone. Make a cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate and call your best friend, your parents, your siblings, your neighbor - whoever! Make the call. Gossip for a minute. Check in with your people and tell them you love them.
- Write holiday notes to loved ones. While this may seem like a chore at first, reflecting on each person you write to and the joy they bring into your life will make you feel connected, uplifted and grateful.
And if none of these ideas fit your fancy, then turn to your gal pals and ask them for a girls night! Nothing beats being surrounded by those who know you best.
Sending love to you, Mama!
