Set yourself up for success in the New Year!
One of the biggest New Year's resolutions is weight loss. Some of the biggest reasons for not sticking with that resolution are money, lack of time, difficulty to stick to, cutting out too much. Try starting with small changes that may have big results.
Cutting out added sugars can be a great tool for aiding in weight loss goals, as well as, overall health. Many foods such as fruits, grains, cheese, etc. contain natural sugars. It's when manufacturers add different syrups and forms of sugar to processes and packaged products that it can become a problem. Foods with natural sugar such as apples and carrots still contain vitamins, minerals and nutrients that are good for your body. Sugars that are added to foods are simply empty/unnecessary calories.
One of the easiest ways to cut out added sugar is to 'shop around the outside of the grocery store'. Choose whole foods, fruits, vegetables, proteins and grains that are minimally processed. At times, it may be difficult to avoid a packaged product or two, so as a general rule, look for foods that contain 4 grams of added sugar or less.
Whatever you choose as your resolution or goal, be sure that it's attainable and sustainable!
