Website Promotion
This is the most valuable service we can provide to any race because it directly results in our customers signing up for your event. If you attended our annual Race Directors’ Meeting, you have already ensured that your race will go on our race calendar. You can also submit events to our website by filling out the “Submit an Event” form. In addition to the calendar, our main page always shows the next three upcoming events on our calendar. We also have a “Race Blog,” which features upcoming races with more detail.
We also promote events in our weekly newsletter, which is sent to over 37,000 unique email addresses. Our newsletter stories typically include profiles, interviews, race information or any other interesting stories you provide us with. There is limited amount of space in our newsletter to feature races and not all races that request will be featured. Fleet Feet Sports will include feature articles based on the specific partnership we have with each race. Every race that submits their event to our race calendar will be highlighted in the Coming Up section of the newsletter and all races that provide material will be posted on our Race Blog.
In-Store Promotion
In our Dewitt location we have the ability to promote events on our Community Wall. This area, located near the entrance and waiting area, contains plenty of space for holding race applications. There is also a magnetic board for posting race posters.
In-store Packet Pickup
For most events it is advantageous to hold a packet pickup the day before the event. We host a number of packet pickups at our stores throughout the year. It adds to the big race feel for the runners, who are used to attending packet pickups and race expos. It is also very helpful to race organizers and volunteers because there are far fewer packets to be picked up on race day, cutting down on the traffic and confusion in the registration area. Generally we experience a pickup rate of at least 50% of all pre-registered participants. The pickup is also an opportunity to allow more participants to sign up for the event.
Both of our stores have a community room that races can hold a packet pick up in. In addition to providing you with the space, tables and chairs, you will have access to our 60-inch television, which is equipped for connection to a laptop computer. This will allow you to run your own slideshow of race announcements and information during the packet pickup. Based on the location your event is being held, we can help you decide which space will work the best.
Should you choose to hold a packet pickup, be prepared to hand out everything the runners would get on the day of the race: bib numbers, promotional items, race day information, etc. You should also be prepared to sign up new participants. To ensure success, be sure that your race application and website advertise the time and location of your packet pickup and that you show up early and plan to stay late on packet pickup day. You should check with your scoring and timing company prior to scheduling a packet pickup to ensure that you will be able to distribute bibs and timing devices. You also should have an appropriate number of volunteers present at the pickup at all times. After all materials are unloaded, all volunteers should park away from the front of the store leaving spaces available for your participants and our customers. All garbage and cardboard should be disposed of in our dumpster located in the parking lot.
Advice
Whether you are putting on a new event or looking to add a twist to an older one, we are always happy to sit down with you and talk about your event. Over the past thirteen years we have been involved with countless events, so we have seen just about everything.
Event Sponsorship
In addition to the services listed above, we frequently become even more involved as race sponsors. Other ways we get involved include attending race-planning meetings, providing prizes, bringing in our vendors as sponsors and more. We would be happy to discuss these and other options with you.
