Altra Olympus 5
Features
Go for an all-day adventure in the plush Altra Olympus 5.
Altra’s Compression Molded EVA midsole foam gives you light and luxurious performance with a little extra bounce and durability.
The Olympus is built with Altra’s Original FootShape™ Fit, which is the most voluminous of Altra’s shoes. It also has their signature wide toe box so your toes can splay naturally. Like all Altra shoes, the Olympus has a Balanced Cushioned™ platform that positions your heel and forefoot at equal distances from the ground (or zero heel-to-toe drop), which encourages better alignment and form.
Altra redesigned the outsole to make it even easier to run on uneven terrain. The Olympus 5 has the grip and traction to take on any terrain thanks to its Vibram® Megagrip™, which is a durable and sticky high-performance rubber that works great on both wet and dry surfaces.
A breathable engineered mesh upper is comfortable to wear all day long and Altra refined the sidewalls to increase stability while you are on uneven terrain. The premium collar has been redesigned for added comfort and keeps your heel locked in and secure.
Whether you are hiking or running an ultra-marathon, do it in comfort with the Altra Olympus 5.

Great fit & performance. Durability awful.
Great fit. great feel & performance.Horrible durability.Have been through three pairs of Olympus 5.Each pair could see tread coming up after first use.Wore out on returning them started using shoe goo to hold the tread together. Shoe Goo works great but at the price of Olympus 5 it is irksome to be having to hold them together with glue from day one.
Tough comfortable and rugged
Altra Olympus 5 are the only shoes I wear. I walked the Camino de Santiago (420 miles) in May 2023 and spent 6 days hiking at Rocky Mountain National Park in July. They still look and feel great!
Olympus 4's awesome the 5's are pretty meh
I am a long distance Hiker not a runner. I used the Olympus 4's for about 250 miles on the AT and other than some normal wear to the non-vibram portion of the sole they held up great. This year I am doing an Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike and wanted newer shoes to start so I wouldn't need to change so often. Enter the new Olympus 5's. I have about 250 miles on these now. The sole is beginning to separate even though it doesn't show undue wear. It seems like the toe box is more narrow than even the previous generation - the ball of my foot is blowing out the sidewalk and there is less support in the mid sole (about 10-12 miles into the day my feet just hurt). Overall I would not recommend the new model especially since this is one of the higher priced shoes in the market space. They aren't terrible but for the price there has got to be a better shoe!
Altra Olympus 5 Stands up as the best Trail Shoe Available
The Altra Olympus 5 is an amazing shoe and the best trail runner/hiker i have found for my feet. They have a zero drop with tons of cushioning. The Vibram soles are the best around and grip rocks roots stumps dirt mud and everything else a rugged trail can throw at it. It has an amazing ability to remove moisture and dry really fast when they get wet. They are wider then most normal Altra shoes which for me was a selling point. I have wide feet and the Olympus build is perfect and offer a ton of stability and support for the ankles and still have enough room for my toes to move around. This shoe is a must for those looking for a great trail hiking shoe. Only flaw so far after 50 miles of trail use. The logo and other glued on elements are starting to peel off. I plan on wearing my shoes till they completely fall apart anyway. I'm excited to have this shoe for my marathon hike for Make A Wish in a few weeks.
It's hard to wrong with Altras
These are a great trail shoe that can also hit the road with great cushion. The only reason for not giving a 5 star is they are a bit roomier than the Olympus4 I have a bit of foot movement on the downhill.
