New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Trainer v2
Features
Maximize your energy for longer with the New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Trainer v2.
The SuperComp Trainer v2 brings that race-day energy to a high-mileage training shoe. It has Energy Arc technology that places a sport-specific carbon fiber plate between two layers of super lightweight FuelCell cushioning, leaving a hollow channel through the middle of the shoe. The plate is flattened into the channel with each foot strike and returns energy as it reshapes to create a rebound-effect and keep you running forward.
The FuelCell midsole foam is lightweight, bouncy and propulsive. It has been reformulated to make it even lighter so you can easily pick up the pace. A re-engineered upper adds structure for support and a breathable flat knit material for a locked-in fit, which our reviewers appreciated in our New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Trainer v2 review.
Go farther, faster and longer with the New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Trainer v2.

What’s New
New Balance made some improvements with the SuperComp Trainer v2 to make it easier to pick up the pace. They lowered the stack height to make the shoe a bit more stable and re-engineered the FuelCell foam to make it even lighter and bouncier.
They also redesigned the Energy Arc plate technology, narrowing the channel to prevent debris from getting in and making it more stable.
Designers reworked the upper, changing it from a sock-like upper to a more traditionally structured upper that has more padding around the heel and collar along with a gusseted tongue. The new engineered mesh is breathable and provides a great fit.
All of these changes make the shoe about an ounce lighter than the previous version to give you a peppy run.

New Balance SuperComp trainer V2 Review
Size 9 men’s. Overall a good choice for a training shoe. My first race was a half marathon. Starting with the negatives. I found the shoe to run a bit large and the insole not sufficient to make up for the extra room. So it felt a bit loose. The top edge material on the tongue started rubbing on my ankle which caused an area at the bend at the top of my foot at the ankle to be rubbed raw. Overall the negatives were fairly inconsequential. The positives. The shoe is light and cushioned well and more than adequate to handle a half marathon. The toe box is roomy which helped my wide foot. The material breathed great. The cushioning and inner plate provided great stability for the foot. The only reason this isn’t a 5 star is that in my opinion for the price a bit more arch support would have been nice. Overall after purchasing arch support insert this has turned into an excellent trainer and I won’t hesitate to use it for another upcoming half marathon.
Strange bump on left shoe
I loved this show for the first two miles. Very springy and light. Then they started sitting into the top of my big toe on my left foot. We adjusted them at the store and it is better but still present. I will be bringing them back soon. I am willing to try another pair to see if this is a defect or I will trade for something similar. I love new balance and really hope this is just a flaw in this pair.
Setting PRs - Check Strava
I will buy another pair. These are my easy day MAF run shoes but they are also breaking personal records that I can beat with Endorphin Speed 3s. The plate and squish is magic. Trod along on easy days or get up on your toes for a PR. It’s fall and there are acorns all over. These shoes squish like marshmallows but still crack acorns with every step. It’s an amazing combo of soft and spring but not a high energy return feel like Saucony or ASIC foam. I’ve set uphill PRs that I can beat in my supposedly faster shoes.
A downgrade but still a good super trainer
Runs a little bigger than v1. I wore a 9.5 in v1. Now in a 9 for v2. Not as cushy as the original. Still a great shoe but not as good as the original.
Can’t go wrong with NB
Been using since v1 excellent ride to the one that said wore through them in 40 miles you can’t do that in Walmart shoes got over 120 miles in mine still riding good
Doesn’t last
I bought this show and wore through the sole after 40 miles.
