Middle of the road Classic Trail Runner.
Usually running in Inov8s, and being a very novice trail runner, I wanted something that felt like the sneakers of the 90s lol. Nothing too fancy, nothing stacked crazy high, nothing so “lightweight” that you could see through the fabric and the tongue could have been tissue paper! The peregrine 14s were that shoe. Though not quite as flexible or with as much ground feel as I wanted, they were adequately cushioned without being bulky. Size-wise, I had to go up a half size as the toe box tapers to the middle whereas I do best with a straight big toe size. But lockdown midfoot is good enough the slight extra length is fine. I do get a tiny bit of heel slip, which I nearly always have in sturdy non-flexible trail shoes, but the heel collar padding helps and it’s not bad. Firm shoes to be sure. But that makes up a little for the increased stack over the years, allowing you to still feel the ground beneath you pretty well.
