This past week we’ve seen the signs… warmer temperatures, the snow has melted (mostly), the birds are chirping and the sun even made an appearance. Spring is coming. And so is spring training season.
There’s a race almost every weekend, including a very special 40th running of the Dunn Tire Mountain Goat Run. There’s no mistake that this race has earned its moniker. It is HILLY. And decently long. It has definitely earned its right to not be taken lightly but it’s also a totally doable race, with the right preparation.
Fleet Feet Sports, Syracuse’s Mountain Goat/Spring Half Marathon Training starts NEXT WEDNESDAY, Feb. 28. Already more than 100 strong, our group of runners, joggers, racers (whatever you want to call them), will start to do speed and hill workouts every Wednesday evening along with a gradually longer run every Sunday. Not to mention an awesome group of coaches who will be there every step of the way.
We’ll discuss racing strategy, nutrition and hydration, running form and whatever else you may need to feel more confident embarking on your long, hilly distance journey. The Mountain Goat Run sounds like a bear of a race, but with the right tools and preparation, it’ll feel more like a lamb come May 6.
And for the 40th anniversary, Fleet Feet Sports is offering all athletes that train with us an exclusive Mountain Goat Training Program patch, perfect for backpacks or jean jackets. There will also be three prizes raffled off: a spa package, a New Balance outfit and a pair of New Balance running shoes. Don’t miss out!
One of my favorite mantras to repeat while doing my own training is “If it were easy, everyone would do it.” So no, it won’t be easy but it will be awesome.
