Hi Coach.
I have recently been diagnosed with a partial Hi IT Band tear near my hip. The nurse practitioner at the doctor's office pretty much said my running days are over... I just wanted to see if you knew of anyone running again after this type of injury. I injured my hip running on the canal when I stepped on a rock wrong.
Thank you,
Georgia G.
Hi Georgia G and Hi IT band.
Sorry I had to, I'm a connoisseur of Dad jokes.
To be absolutely honest, no I do not know of anyone running again after that type of injury. However, it's not an injury I have any experience with. ITB syndrome I see and hear about often but a tear is new territory for me as a coach.
The one thing you learn working with athletes is that nearly nothing is impossible. Sure, things are highly improbable but not impossible. The will of someone to overcome setbacks and ebbs is incredibly powerful.
I would suggest some rest to allow for healing and recovery from the injury. Working with a physical therapist or at the very least using the Saucony Stride Lab to pinpoint and strengthen any imbalances caused by this injury once you've taken some time off would also be beneficial.
Take is slow, set some goals, work hard and above all, be realistic with yourself and what progress you make.
Coach Phil
