We have all come up with reasons why we can't run, but consider the possibility of actually wanting to run when you have the support of a team!
1) Accountability
Accountability - Do you have trouble making time for your workout, or maybe you lack the motivation to complete consistent workouts by yourself? Training with a team is the perfect way to combat these challenges. First, you must make time for your health. If you don't, who will? Once you have committed to a time, you still need to get out the door; that is where your team comes in! Knowing you have a group to meet with will keep that little voice in your head, telling you to go out for ice cream instead of a run, quieted just a little... at least until after the workout.
2) Camaraderie
Camaraderie - When you train with a team of like-minded individuals who share similar goals, you enhance your training experience. Not only will you meet new people, but you can share your stories with those who undoubtedly experience similar challenges. Through group training, we learn from each other and form a supportive community.
3) Time Flies
Time Flies - Just like a long drive with your best friend feels like minutes compared to hours when you take the trip solo, a workout seems to fly by when you are accompanied by your team and coaches. Sure, you will still put in the minutes and miles, but having the distraction of others and even the outdoors will help the mental fatigue of working out.
4) Learning
Learning - Through feedback from coaches, teammates, and even outside experts, team training can afford you the opportunity to learn more about the sport. Whether running is a brand new activity or you are revisiting the challenge after some time away, having a team will help with this education, simply by offering greater perspective.
5) Celebration!
Celebration! Sure you can celebrate your own achievements, but like so many milestones, sharing the challenges and triumphs with a team will enrich your experience. How would you rather complete a race? Cross the finish line, grab a water, and head home? OR have coaches run you in with your team cheering for you along the course with high fives in the finish chute?! I know my preference.
