Welcome to 2018.
It is going to be a great year and we all have a chance to start it off right.
At Fleet Feet Sports we spend a lot of time speaking to everyone we know about balance. Work-life balance, running activity balance, dietary balance and balance in almost all aspects of life are key to long-term success in achieving your goals.
As an example, if you set a goals to increase running and run every day of the week, with the same exact running surface, speed and distance, chances are you will increase your risk of injury.
Take diet, there is an old saying, “get fit in the gym, lose weight in the kitchen”. If you go on a super restrictive diet, it will be hard to maintain long term and old eating habits will soon creep back in.
So if you can add a degree of balance to the changes you want to make in 2018, you will increase the odds of being successful. By adding a strength-training day instead of running or allowing for a good dessert once in a while, it may actually increase your success and happiness.
Speaking of balance, here are two opportunities to get your 2018 off to a balanced start:
The 40th Anniversary of the Dunn Tire Mountain Goat Run will be held on Sunday, May 6 and early registration for both the 10-mile Mountain Goat and two-person 10-mile relay (5 miles each person) ends at midnight on Tuesday January 2. Save $10 and sign up before the deadline.
On Friday, Jan. 5, my wife Ellen and I are hosting another house concert, this time featuring Adam Ezra, as he kicks off his 40-show 2018 Get Folked Tour in Syracuse. Less than 15 tickets remain and anyone who has seen Adam’s previous shows at our house, know that anything can happen. Adam is releasing a new album called Memoria, featuring nine songs from artists we lost in 2017 including Tom Petty, Prince, Merle Haggard, Glen Frey, Greg Allman and more. Click here to purchase tickets to Friday's show.
Not familiar with Adam, check out this new video just released.
