Runner's Blog: There's nothing like running on a trail in the fall, join us

A relaxing summer afternoon, sitting on the patio and out of the corner of my eye it appears, a small gold leaf floating to the ground. As I sit a little longer, another leaf drops and then another. This moment is the first sign that summer is coming to an end and fall is about to begin.

There is just something right about running in the fall with cooler weather, fields of yellow goldenrod and purple New England Aster. As the leaves fall, the crunch of running over fallen leaves is second only to the smell of fallen apples.

This week we get the jump on fall with the start of the Fleet Feet Sports Trail Run Series.  This Thursday night, join us for a run on the west side of town at the Camillus Forest Unique Area at 6 p.m. 

There are three trail runs lined up this year, all with their own character, running experience and surfaces. Each run is 35 to 45 minutes in length and will traverse smooth paths, grass fields, technical single-track trails and a variety of other conditions. Of course the weather always plays a part and although most area trails are a bit on the dry side right now, that can change quickly.

The second trail run is Thursday Sept. 28 at the Empire Farm Brewery in Cazenovia and the series concludes Oct. 5 at the Great Bear Recreation Area in Fulton.

If you have never gone on a trail run, do it. The pace is a little slower to accommodate the surfaces, impact on your body is much less and the sights are the added bonus.
