This past Sunday, more than 200 runners of all ages, sizes and abilities got together to support long-time Fleet Feet Sports employee Alex Paley who is battling glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer.
Alex, who hails from the Albany area, is a third-year medical student at Upstate Medical University. When it came time to decide what type of medicine Alex wanted to practice, it was no surprise that he chose family medicine. Anyone who knows Alex can tell you stories about how he always encourages healthy eating and exercise. He knows a lot about both, having attended the University of Miami on a running scholarship.
More than 30 of his medical school classmates formed Team Paley to support Alex and his family with both the emotional and financial support they need as they go through his treatment. The team was out in force on Sunday at Fleet Feet’s Cold Feet Run, collecting donations, sharing stories about Alex and running with the Syracuse community. Anyone who worries about our future should spend some time with these medical students who are as genuine, smart, caring and enthusiastic as anyone you’ve ever met.
McKinzie Neggers is one of Alex’s classmates who was at the Cold Feet Run on Sunday and talked about what a genuine person her friend and classmate is.
“He would invite me to go on a run with him and I knew he was an elite athlete. He would always say not to worry and run at the slow pace I could run at,” she said. “Alex is everyone’s favorite in our class and he made it his mission to have dinner with each and every one of us to learn more about us and to discuss how to help people to live healthy.”
Alex has a long fight ahead of him. If you would like to help Alex and his family as they navigate his treatment and help pay for medical bills, you can make a donation at: https://www.youcaring.com/alexpaley-744397
Thanks for helping a member of our family.
