Incorporating a run/walk interval into your training routine can provide significant benefits, making it a great approach for both beginners and experienced runners. In our beginner programs, we encourage new runners to try this method as an effective way to get started. However, the run/walk interval isn’t only for novices—it’s a powerful technique that can help any runner improve endurance and cross the finish line feeling strong. Here’s why it works:
-
Lower Risk of Injury: The run/walk method reduces the strain on your body by giving muscles periodic breaks. This minimizes wear and tear, decreasing the likelihood of injury compared to continuous running.
-
Faster Recovery: Since your body undergoes less physical stress, recovery time after runs is quicker, letting you train more consistently.
-
Manageable Distances: Running is as much a mental game as it is physical, especially for longer distances. Run/walk intervals make tackling larger goals feel achievable by breaking down miles into short, focused bursts of effort.
-
Accessible for All: The run/walk approach allows almost anyone to pursue running goals, regardless of age, weight, or fitness level. By starting with a manageable interval, you can gradually increase your running time, reducing walk breaks as your endurance builds.
Gear Up Night: Our Gear Up Night will look to give participants the opportunity to learn more about potential porducts that are needed for the program(lights, shoes, nutrition) as well as the opportuntiy to come meet fellow participants and coaches!
