What is Plogging?
"Plogging" is a portmanteau of jogging and the Swedish plocka upp, meaning "pick up." It is the practice of picking up litter while on a run.
What do you need to go plogging?
You will need a garbage bag, grabbers, and rubber gloves. We all know people toss some pretty vile things--please don't pick up trash bare-handed! You'll also need a good pair of running shoes, of course.
Safety considerations
If you plan to run on a busy road (and that's likely where you'll find the most litter), be sure to wear highly visible clothing. Do not run in the street, even if you see trash that needs to be picked up. No soda cup or fast food bag is worth the risk! And, as with any run, if you're out early in the morning or after work, wear reflective gear and lights.
Where can I get this stuff?
We host quarterly plogging events at our stores. Keep an eye out for details. But if you're ready to go now, you don't have to wait! We have plogging kits available to borrow. Each kit contains grabbers, gloves, bags, and safety vests for 2-4 people and may be checked out for 48 hours.
To reserve your plogging kit, visit the store or email sharon.kyner@fleetfeetraleigh.com.
