Fleet Feet Winston-Salem & Clemmons are excited to be partnering with Fusion Soccer and Superfeet to help educate you and your athletes about foot comfort in soccer cleats.
Since we opened in 2006, we have been partnering with Superfeet to help ensure foot comfort across the Triad. You don't have to sacrifice foot comfort in soccer cleats or practice shoes!
Superfeet rigid insoles provide crucial support in soccer cleats by offering added structure and stability to the foot. Their firm arch support helps evenly distribute pressure across the foot, reducing strain on muscles and joints during quick pivots and direction changes. The insoles also help maintain proper alignment, which can improve posture and reduce the risk of injuries like plantar fasciitis or ankle sprains. In a cleat with less cushioning and support, Superfeet insoles provide enhanced comfort, allowing players to perform at their best without compromising foot health. Insole prices vary between $55-$60 and can typically be worn for a full year.
Soccer players often experience a variety of foot pains due to the intense demands of the sport and the snug fit of soccer cleats. Some common foot issues include:
-
Blisters: The friction between the foot and the cleat, especially in the heel or toes, can lead to painful blisters, particularly when shoes are new or not properly fitted.
-
Plantar Fasciitis: The repetitive stress from running, pivoting, and jumping can irritate the plantar fascia (the tissue along the bottom of the foot), leading to heel pain and inflammation.
-
Metatarsalgia: This condition involves pain in the ball of the foot, often caused by pressure from the cleat's toe box, particularly if the shoe is too tight or lacks sufficient cushioning.
-
Bunions: Tight or narrow soccer cleats can contribute to the development or worsening of bunions, which cause swelling and pain along the big toe joint.
-
Turf Toe: This is an injury to the ligaments around the big toe joint, often caused by the force of pushing off the ground in soccer, leading to pain at the base of the toe.
-
Achilles Tendonitis: The pressure and repetitive stress on the Achilles tendon from constant sprinting and direction changes can cause irritation and inflammation, leading to pain at the back of the ankle.
-
Morton's Neuroma: A thickening of tissue around nerves in the foot, often caused by pressure from tight shoes or cleats, resulting in sharp, burning pain between the toes.
-
Flat Feet/Overpronation: Players with flat feet or excessive inward rolling (overpronation) may experience arch pain, foot fatigue, or knee problems due to the lack of proper support from their cleats.
Using well-fitted cleats, insoles, and ensuring proper warm-ups and stretching can help reduce the risk of these common foot issues.
Be sure to visit the Fleet Feet table at an upcoming event so we can assist you with finding the right insole to support your foot inside your cleats! You can find the Fleet Feet table near the food trucks.
